Kantara Chapter 1’s Kerala Release Halted Amid Profit-Sharing Dispute

🎬 Kantara: Chapter 1, one of the most awaited films of 2025, is facing release trouble in Kerala. The Film Exhibitors Union of Kerala (FEUOK) has announced they will not screen the film due to a profit-sharing conflict with its distributor, Prithviraj Productions.
The issue began when Prithviraj Sukumaran’s company demanded a 55% profit share from theatres for the first two weeks—higher than the existing 50% set by Kerala exhibitors. FEUOK refused, citing unfair treatment compared to how Malayalam films are treated outside Kerala, where they only receive 40%.
Vijayakumar, FEUOK’s president, stated that no screenings will happen unless distributors initiate talks. With the film slated for a grand release on October 2, uncertainty looms over whether the dispute will be resolved in time.
Kantara: Chapter 1, written and directed by Rishab Shetty, stars him alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Rakesh Poojari, and Gulshan Devaiah. The prequel promises to expand the mystical universe of the original blockbuster.
